About Us

Education, Science, and Climate in One Curriculum

ClimaMonitor is an educational and scientific platform connecting elementary and secondary schools with universities for climate research. Students do not simulate science. They practice it, collecting field data that feeds active university studies.

The programme was developed in partnership with the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and is designed to expand into a pan-European distributed research network by 2028.

Direct Impact on Students

Science That Changes How Young People See the World

Most students learn about climate change from textbooks. ClimaMonitor students measure it themselves, compare results with peers across the country, and contribute findings to university research. That experience builds a fundamentally different relationship with science and the environment.

The skills students develop through ClimaMonitor go beyond curriculum. They learn to collect and question data, communicate findings, and think critically about environmental systems.

How It Works

The Research Workflow

From a university research question to a published dataset. ClimaMonitor manages every step of the pipeline, with schools at the centre. Hover over each step to learn more.

Research Question
A university or research institution defines the scientific question and objectives for the study.
Protocol
CZU and ClimaMonitor design a standardized measurement protocol that all schools follow.
Classroom Translation
ClimaMonitor adapts the protocol into age-appropriate instructions and materials for students and teachers.
Data Collection
IoT weather stations and soil sensors record data continuously. Students add their own field observations.
Data Validation
Collected data is reviewed for quality and consistency before being submitted to the research team.
Research Dataset
Validated data from all participating schools is aggregated into a single research-grade dataset.
Publication
The university publishes research findings. Results are shared back with every participating school.
Learning Phase
Students review the published results, compare their school's data with others, and discuss findings in class.

2026 Pilot Project

Sorghum and Climate Adaptation with CZU Prague

In the first research cycle, participating schools are growing sorghum, a drought-resistant crop, under protocols designed by the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. Students compare irrigated and non-irrigated plots, measuring how climate conditions affect plant growth across different locations.

This pilot demonstrates the model in practice: schools as distributed field stations, contributing to a CZU research programme on sustainable agriculture and climate adaptation.
